JESSICA SIMPSON

The first fruit of Jessica Simpson's upcoming country album has hit the airwaves. "Come on Over" was serviced digitally yesterday (May 27) to country radio and was spun 21 times on Broadcast Data Systems-monitored stations.

Against acoustic guitar strums and a driving rhythm, the track finds Simpson pleading with a love interest to drop everything and pay her a visit. "Leave your coat behind the door / leave your laundry on the floor / just come on over," she sings.

Simpson's as-yet-untitled album is expected in early fall via Columbia Nashville, according to her spokesperson.

"I am a country girl," she told Billboard late last year in her first interview about the project. "I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right."

"I think there is a strength in female country artists," she added, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations.

Kellie Pickler Deals With Abandonment

June 18, 2008 — Being abandoned by a parent can be one of the most devastating events that happen in a child’s life, and many fail to get past the emotional trap that it creates. Not so for Kellie Pickler, who was fortunate to have grandparents step in and raise her.

"My grandparents had such a huge impact on my life," she told Fox News. "They took me under their wing and made me the woman that I am today, and without them, I could have easily been put into foster care."

Kellie’s mom abandoned her when she was young. Kellie wrote her second hit, "I Wonder," specifically about the experience of having a parent who chose to live life at a distance. Her father has had his own issues with substance abuse. He was serving time in a Florida prison for a stabbing incident when she rose to prominence on "American Idol" in 2006. He was arrested twice last year in North Carolina — once for threatening a woman with a steak knife, the other time for stealing abandoned cars and selling them to junkyards.

Kellie chooses to focus on the positive impact her grandparents had instead of feeling sorry for herself over her mom and dad’s absence. And she’s embraced the idea of sharing her story publicly.

"It’s great to be open about everything I’ve had to overcome," she said. "This turned out to be the best thing — I am so, so blessed. My grandma filled that void of not having my mom in my life, so she was like my grandma, my mom and my best friend all in one."

Kenny's Stadium Show In Chicago a Big Hit!

June 23, 2008 — Kenny Chesney is one of the few acts in any genre playing stadiums this summer, and when he took his act to Chicago’s Soldier Field Saturday night, it turned into a major event throughout the city.

For starters, radio station WUSN went all-Kenny-all-the-time for the better part of two days, playing only Kenny’s music, letting up only to play the occasional song by Keith Urban, who was also on the bill at the show.

"It’s been pretty crazy this year," Kenny says. "We have had some amazing moments, whether it was having them all but close Duval Street when the Keg In The Closet warm-up shows hit Key West or having Steve Miller come out and play with us in San Francisco, and this just takes it one step further."

Just like in San Francisco, the Chicago show — presented at the stadium where the Bears play their NFL games — had its own special moments. Keith’s wife, Nicole Kidman, was on hand, and Keith sang "Happy Birthday" to her one day after she turned 41. Keith and Kenny did a duet on the Eagles’ classic "Take It To The Limit," and two members of the city’s baseball teams — Cubs outfielder Jim Edmonds and White Sox infielder Nick Swisher — were also in attendance, according to the post-concert chatter on the WUSN site.
